Roy Schrijver

At the Biochemistry department of Maastricht University I got my introduction to hemostasis and protein engineering.

I produce and purify (mutant) recombinant proteins using recombinant DNA techniques, mainly proteins involved in blood coagulation. I have a strong knowledge in different techniques like protein purification, protein characterization, enzyme kinetics, and direct binding experiments. I currently function as the specialist in Biacore and ITC/DSC for the department.

I have specialized on studying technologies that are used to study structure-function relationships of proteins involved in coagulation and inflammation. This type of information enables us to specifically influence the function of these proteins for the benefit of patients suffering from either thromboembolic diseases or from bleeding or from patients affected by inflammatory diseases, such as atherosclerosis or sepsis.

Recently I have been involved in a project of Matisse Pharmaceuticals B.V., a spin-off from the Basic Pharma Group, that will further develop a new medicine discovered in our laboratory and will test its therapeutic efficacy and safety in clinical trials.
